It is only about a minute drive out I from downtown San Diego. I have been a couple of times now to the flying leathernecks, and am always amazed by how interested and fascinating the staff are. The last time i went, there was a marine who had been to Iwo Jima, and this time one of the staff had just retired after flying helicopters since the end of Vietnam. There are loads of planes on display, and you are free to take your time. A must to visit.
This is the perfect place for those interested in aviation history and all things military. They have a small space and lots to display inside the prefab building. Outside is a area with planes on display. They have a nice little gift shop. It has the potential to grow into a popular attraction.

Marine aviators led the attack in the famous Battle of Midway, an American victory despite high losses to pilots and aircraft. The Marines continued their close relationship of air and ground forces in Korea, deploying jet aircraft and helicopters for the first time while still making excellent use of the legendary Corsair. The introduction of helicopters in combat increased mobility in rugged terrain and, combined with field hospitals, greatly reduced the number of combat deaths in the field.
